||
Description |
English: The harness pendant is from the Medieval period. This shaped pendant was popular about the 14th century (Griffiths). It is made from cast copper alloy. In plan the pendant is a bulbous quatrefoil shape with a triangular spur in each corner. Protruding from the centre of the upper leaf of the quatrefoil is an integral elongated triangular protrusion which terminates with an incomplete loop. The loop is positioned perpendicular to the pendant. The outer surface of the pendant is decorated with a shield outline. The shield is decorated with a two rows of curvaceous ‘’ shapes, divided by a zigzag line. In the field of this decoration, there are traces of red enamel. In addition, in the field exterior to the shield there are also traces of red enamel.The reverse of the pendant is undecorated and is flat. The surface of the pendant is corroded and has lost most of its patina. The pendant measures 38.83mm long and 29mm wide. It weighs 6.4g. |
