Title
A single view of a Medieval annular buckle.
Description
English: The object is an annular buckle. It is made from cast copper. Egan and Pritchard date a similar buckle (No. 31) to the late 13th century to early 14th century.

The frame is bi-convex in section, with slightly flattened faces, a rounded interior edge and a uneven exterior edge. The frame is undecorated. The pin is cast copper alloy, and is an elongated sub-rectangle in plan which is curled around the frame. The underside of the pin has a groove running near the curl as if the pins sides have been squeezed slightly. The pin also is slightly bent in profile forming a ‘V’ shape. The upper surface of the pin, near the curl has traces of gilding.

The buckle frame has a dark grey patina, where as the pin is dark green. The buckle measures 25.08mm long across the pin, and 21.84mm in diameter. It weighs 3.4g.
