Title
A silver Republican denarius, minted in Rome probably 96 BC.
Description
English: A silver Roman Republican denarius of A Albinus, probably dating to 96 BC (diameter: 17.8mm; thickness: 1.2mm; weight: 3.39g). Albinus was perhaps killed at the Battle of the Colline Gate. This type of the coin seems to allude to the sacrifice to Diana as a result of which Rome became caput rerum, and to the battle of Lake Regillus in which A. Postumius Albus Regillensis is reported to have hurled a standard among the enemy (Crawford, 1974, Volume I, page 335).
