Summary[edit]
DescriptionA shrine from eastern side cluster of temples inside Malleshwar temple complex at Mallarpur in Birbhum district 21.jpg |
English: Facade of 6th Charchala temple from northern side from eastern cluster of temples inside Malleshwar temple complex at Mallarpur in Birbhum district. There is a contemporary foundation stone which says the temple was built by one Taradas Sharma as early as 14th century.
The Malleshwar temple complex has several charchala style shiva temples inside it including the Malleshwar Shiva temple itself along with the do chala styled Siddheswari Kali temple and a rather modern Shiva temple besides it. The year of establishment of Malleshwar temple is said to have built in 1192 AD, which also seems highly unlikely from the temple structure. There are two Natmandirs (Pillared pavilions) in the center of the premises. There are fourteen temples on the eastern side of the premises facing west, of which 13 are charchala styled and the one in the centre is of Pancha Ratna style. On the Southern side there are four charchala styled temples facing north. On the western side there are three charchala styled temples facing east. Malleshwar temple, Siddheswari Kali temple and the contemporary shiva temple are also located in this side facing east. There is remains of an old temple inside the premises. Also on the back of Malleshwar temple, there is a grave of one Krishnananda Agambagish. It is not verified whether he is the guru of Ramprasad, a famous devotee of Kali. The grave has been renovated in recent times in contemporary style. |
