Title
A shield shaped harness pendant in plan.
Description
English: The harness pendant is made from cast copper alloy. In plan the pendant is a shield shape. The maximum length of the pendant from the top of the integral loop to the tip ofthe shield is 26.3mm, by 15.8mm at the widest point of the shield. The surface of the pendant is slightly pitted, but the remaining patina is covered with gilding.

The body of the pendant, i.e. the sheild shape is decorated with a series of lozenge shaped cells covering the outer surface. Some of these cells may have traces of enamel, which has since become corroeded. It is now a light green colour, and this type of coloured enamel would originally have been red. Around the cells the metalwork has been covered with gilding.

The reverse of the pendant also has traces of gilding. This surface is otherwise undecorated.

Protruding from the centre ofthe upper edge of the shield shape is an integral loop. The loop is perpendicular to the pendant and is incomplete. It is uncertain whether this break was due to corrosion or wear.

These pendants are mainly dated to 14th century by Griffiths.
