se de la statue de lAnge,qui fut ensuite placée sur ce mausolée. Ce pont a été réparé par plusieurs papes, et orné de figures danges.Il conduit au château St. Ange, autrefois le mausolée dAdrien, quecelui-ci fit élever pour y faire enfermer ses cendres. Le premier rangen étoit de forme quarrée comme on le voit aujourdhui, et le second defigure ronde, de 125 pas de circonférence, composé de gros quartiersde travertin, et recouvert de marbre de paros. Ces deux rangs étoiententourés de colonnes, entre lesquelles se trouvoient quatre chevaux debronze, et une infiinité de statues. On prétend que les colonnes dupremier rang sont celles quon voit dans la basilique de St. Paul ; etque les colonnes du second, sont celles de verd antique, qui ornent lesniches de la grande nef de la basilique de St. Jean de Latran. THE TEMPLE OF VENUS. A.T the entrance of Rome, by the gate Salara, and on the right-hand road, we meet the Villa Mandozi, in the grounds of which arethe remains of an ancient temple, of a round form, and called theTemple of Venus. It is a considerable ruin ; and placed at the ex-tremity of the Circus of Flora ; and appears to have been built on thesite of a temple to that goddess. This circus was inclosed in thegardens of Sallust, which extended from the church of St. Susannanear the Termini, to the church of St. Joseph a Capo le case. TEMPLE DE VENUS. JiiN entrant dans la ville de Rome, par la porte Salara, on rencontredans le chemin à droite la villa Mandozi, où sont les restes dun templeantique, de figure ronde, appelle le temple de Vénus. Il est à lex-trémité du Cirque de Flora; cest une ruine considérable, et qui occupelemplacement où étoit bâti le temple de la déesse.
