Summary[edit]

Description

A moat, wide and deep, ran around the walls. Here is a view of the moat seen from atop the Xi'an City wall. Over the moat was a huge drawbridge, which would cut off access to the city, once lifted.

Xi'an's city wall, after its enlargement during the Ming Dynasty, stand 12 mtr high. The wall is 12–14 mtr wide across the top, 15–18 mtr thick at the bottom, and 13.7 km- that is nearly 14km in length. (Xi'an, Shaanxi, China, May 2017)
