The firstmessage that passed over the wireswas What hath God wrought.The Morse alphabet is still in use.Morses residence was in Man-hattan, at No. 5 West 22d street.He left money to the New YorkUniversity for an annual medal ofscholarship. There is a bronzestatue of Morse in Central Park.He was present at the unveilingof his statue in 1871, as an honoredguest, and was then eighty yearsold. On that day he sent the following message: Greeting and thanks to the telegraph fraternity throughout tlie world. Glory toGod in the highest, on earth peace, good will to men. — S. F. B. Morse. ^m
