enefactor who made to the people ofhis city and county a munificent gift. PRAIVK CRAIG NICHOLSON—The memberof a well-known family of Wilkes-Barre,Frank C. Nicholson, who since 1913 has beenelectrical engineer for the Lehigli ValleyCoal Company, is highly respected in hiscommunity for his notable business and pro-fessional attainments. He is also a prominentfigure in the social, civic, and fraternal lifeand development of Wilkes-Barre and vi-cinity. He was born in Wilkes-Barre on August31, 1887, the son of William H. and Emma(Comstoek) Nicholson. His grandfather wasW. H. Nicholson, a native of England, whocame to the United States in 1866 from NewCastle, England, and of further mention inthis volume. Prank C. Nicholson spent his boyhood in^^ilkes-Barre, where he attended the publicschools and the high school, having beengraduated from the Wilkes-Barre HighSchool in the class of 1905. Later he attendedthe Pennsylvania State College, from whichhe was graduated in the class of 1909 with

477 the degree of Bachelor of Science in Elec-trical ICngineering. and in 1914 he receivedhis degree of Master of Electrical Engineer-ing-. In 1909 he took a position with theWestinghouse Electric Company, in Pitts-burgh, returning later to Wilkes-Barre to be-come associated with the Vulcan Iron Works.In 1913 he became electrical engineer for theLehigh Valley Coal Company, and has filledthis position ever since that time. Mr. Nich-olson is president of Luzerne County AlumniAssociation of Pennsylvania State, from 1914to 1929; first secretary of the PennsylvaniaState College Engineering Extension Schoolof Wilkes-Barre, 1917; instructor in Electri-cal Engineering subjects in the Mining In-stitute of Wilkes-Barre, 1914-17. In hispolitical afflliations he is a member of theRepublican party. He is identified religiouslywith the Westminster Presbyterian Church,of Wilkes-Barre.
