TEXAS AND TEXANS 1663 His fraternal connections are with the local lodges ofthe Independent Order of Odd Fellows, the Woodmenof the World, the Benevolent and Protective Order ofElks, the Pretorians and the Knights of the Maccabees. On July 31, 1904, Judge Lewis was married in Jonescounty, Texas, to Miss Ola McLaughlin, who was born inArkansas, daughter of E. B. McLaughlin, at present aresident of Dickens county. To this union there hasbeen born one child: Juanita, born November 19, 1905,at Abilene, Taylor county. Alexander B. Phillips. One of the ablest men inthe fire insurance field of Texas is Mr. Alexander K.Phillips of Dallas, the special agent for the GermanAmerican Insurance Company of New York. In 1S97,when just out of school, and a boy of seventeen, he wasgiven his opportunity. This opportunity consisted insubjecting himself to the demands and requirements thatmight be made of a general office boy in an insuranceoffice. He did about everything an office boy would beasked to do
