acing the lodge is the finest on Spirit Lake. It is quite wide,floored with clean, white sands dipping so gently into the waterthat bathers can go out a great distance before getting beyondtheir depth. This is the most ^Dopnlar pastime at this resortand the merry shouts of children at play n)ion the sand orsporting in the wafer are heard from morn till night. Bathing-accidents so common at many resorts would seem to be impos-sible here. Boating, sailing, shooting and fishing are alsoprominent among the outdoor pleasures here. The rooms arelarge, well furnished and comfortable. The table is suppliedwith an abundance of well cooked and well served food. Cr.andalls Lodge is a new building erected on the site ofwhat was formerly kiiDwn as Hunters Lodge. Another of the well remembered early day resorts on SpiritLake is Lillywhites Lodge at the southwest shore, where now islocated the ^Vestside Hotel. Ofcourse, in the building and arranging of his place he gave ex-pression to his own peculiar ideas and :any one could easilyunderstand that no woman had any part in shaping his plans.He did his own work, was scrupulously neat, and soon his lodgecame to be immensely popular. But Billy w.as of a roving dis-position, and after a time this kind of life becamt irksome andmonotonous and in 1875 he sold the place which afterwardscame into the possession of C. A. Arnold, Esq. Mr. Arnolderected additional buildings, and for several years conductedthe place as the fWestside Hotel.
