the north, and return by Hector trail to the chalet. Thisrather rough trip, requiring 4 to 5 hours, is recommendedonly to those spending a long time at Lake Louise. Theascent to Lake Agnes is made in the usual way, and the lakeshore is skirted over the broken stones and boulders on northside of lake. The general trend of the valley is followedwith ease, turning gradually to the right, and an ascent madetowards the lowest part of the depression between MountsNiblock and Saint Piran. The snow patch on north side ofthe pass, somewhat steep in upper part, must be negotiatedwith care when frozen hard, after which there is no difficultyin the descent of the valley to a small lake (5,900 feet), 150yards across, overhung by the gloomy precipices of MountNiblock to the north, which latter rise nearly 4,000 feetabove this rarely visited and lonely tarn.
