andoccafion a Fever, attended with Loofenefs, great Difficulty of Breathing,Faintings, or cold Sweats, which are the ufual Forerunners of Death •, and im-port, that this Operation will net be attended with its due Succefs ; and thattherefore the Surgeon may hereby gain Reflections, but no Credit. But if theDiforder be yet recent, and the Patient ftrong, he may then fafely venture onthe Paracentefis of the Thorax, which may be perforated without any Dangerby a prudent Surgeon, who divides only the Skin, Fat, intercoftal Mufcles,and Pleura,what Par*- II. Two Things are neceflary to be confidered before the Operation ; Ist inwV/wa°~ which Side of the Thorax the Matter is contained.; and 2dly, what Part of thatbe pcforat- Cavity is mod proper to be perforated. In order to difcover the firft, the Sur-geon fhould attend diligently to, (1) in which Side the Patient has before hadany Pain or Inflammation : (2) In what Part he perceives the Weight and Fluc-tuation r<rii(. p.18.
