theJubilee Singers singing thereupon, Shall we meet beyond theRiver ? Then came the benediction. The business wasover, and the grand occasion past, the memory thereof to dieno more. ? Although our friends took leave thus of the countrybrethren, they tarried with us, the people of Newcastle, yet awhile. On that Wednesday night, Thursday night, and Friday,were immense meetings, attended by thousands, overflowinginto neighboring churches, although Brunswick Place Chapelwould itself hold two thousand. At these Messrs. Moody andSankey were present. Scores were converted. They werepresent at the noonday meetings of Thursday, Friday, andSaturday, at the last of which between two and three thousandpeople met from eleven to half-past one oclock. On Fridaythere was a midnight meeting, and four were rescued from sinand shame. The Saturday meeting was the last attended byMr. Moody. Hundreds had private conversation with himafterward, and crowds went with him to the station, en route forCarlisle.

THE REVIVAL IN SCOTLAND. 73 CHAPTER XII. THE WORD IN EDINBURGH. Reports of the wonderful interest reached Scotland, andEdinburgh heard the story. Rev. Mr. Kelman went twice toNewcastle to see if the reports of what they heard were true.He returned overflowing with joy, and full of glowing expecta-tions for Scotland. He spread the tidings; his report wasbelieved, and ministers and laymen united in inviting the evan-gelists to Edinburgh. On Sunday, the 23d of November, they began their work inthe Music Hall, with two thousand present, and other thousandsseeking admission in vain. The next day five hundred met atnoon to pray, and soon the attendance at the daily prayer-meeting exceeded a thousand. An all-day meeting was held.A meeting for students was announced in the Free AssemblyHall. So great was the eagerness to obtain admittance, thatthe doors were besieged by an immense crowd after it hadbecome apparent that the hall was full.
