Title |
A fragment of a Roman glass vessel with wooden bung |
||
Description |
English: A fragment of a Roman glass vessel with wooden bung dating AD43-410. The vessel has a collar just below the rim. The rim is entirely broken and missing as is everything below the collar. The glass is green and has been hand blown. The upper surface of the collar and the section of neck just above it is cracked and roughened. The wooden bung is a solid cylinder that has impressions from where it fitted into the neck of the vessel. The wood has shrunk slightly and is now a loose fit.
Dimensions: diameter of collar: 55.58mm; diameter of bung: 39.44mm; length of bung: 61.69mm; weight: 344g. |
