Title
A fragment of a Medieval buckle.
Description
English: The object is a fragment of a Medieval oval shaped buckle frame. The fragment is the apex of the loop where the pin tip usually rests. This example would also have had a roller on the loop, but this is now missing. Egan and Pritchard (Dress Accessories) illustrate similar examples dating to the 13th to 14th centuries. No. 317 is the most similar example illustrated.

The fragment, where the roller would be situated is narrowed, and is oval shaped in section. At each terminal the loop is thickened forming a step and a small spur. The loop continues, protruding from just below the thickened section. The terminals of the loop are both broken, but these breaks are not recent.

The surface of the object has a patchy dark green patina. In length it measures 26.4mm, and it is 8.6mm. It weighs 2.52g.
