English: A flint wall hides Hengrove Cottage beside the Ridgeway, Chivery Walls built solely of flint are not very stable and this one shows the normal construction, with brick pillars at intervals, a brick capping to keep the wall firm and dry, and a brick binding course half way up.
The cottage is probably the one mentioned in an 18th century parchment entitled Title deeds of a cottage and 17½ acres of wood at Hengrove. http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/A2A/records.aspx?cat=008-colet&cid=-1&Gsm=2008-06-18#-1 |
