Heseltine, E>sq. >53 101ALLAN RAMSAY: 1713-1784 Scottish SchoolPORTRAIT OF LADY SUSAN FOX-STRANGWAYS (AFIERWAKUS OBRIEN) SUE is seated with her hands crossed, and is seen in iuU face, lookingout at the spectator. She wears a white dress, trimmed withblue. A column is on the left and a curtain on the right. Canvas. 35 i in. x 27J in. (0.926x0.705). Signed, dated 1761, and inscribed with the ladys name. Lady Susannah Sarah Louisa Fox-Strangvvays was the daughter of thefirst Earl of Ilchester; she was bridesmaid to Queen Charlotte, the consort ofGeorge III. In 1764 she married Mr. William OBrien, who wrote severalcomedies and political pamphlets. She died in 1827. Exhibited at the Grafton Galleries, Fair Women Exhibition, 1894,No. 48 ; also at the Exposition de Cent Portraits de Femmes, Paris, 1909,No. 35. Lent by the Earl of Ilchester. 154
