60GIORGIONH: 1477(?)-151() (Ascribed to)Vetictinn SchoolPORTRAIT OF (ilOV^ANNI ONIGO AvouNG man, less than life-size, turned three-quarters to the left,wearing a black cap, and black dress open at the neck and show-ing white embroidered shirt. In liis right hand he holds a greenbook, half open. The hand is gloved, a ring being worn outside onthe little finger, and the third finger tip is bare (? an archers glove).From the thoughtful expression it may be supposed that he was a poetor philosopher, but nothing is known of him. The Onigo family(whence this portrait came lately) resided near Treviso, and was oneof the most ancient aristocratic families in the North of Italy. Canvas. 27 in. x 22 in. (0.686 x 0.559).
