Title
a Roman glass bead
Description
English: A hand made glass bead, possibly of Roman date, AD43-410. It is of an opaque, grey-blue glass and in shape is an oblate spheroid. One end is slightly misshapen and there are faint lines circling the bead, suggesting that it was made using the trailing process. There is a circular perforation through the flattened ends. The bead is 11.5mm in diameter and 10.2mm thick. It weighs 2.17gm.

A similar bead, known to be of Roman origin, can be found on the database at reference BERK-FA7038. However, glass beads of this colour were used from the Roman period onwards, so the dating is not certain.
