Title
A Roman copper alloy pin or ear scoop, dating from the 1st to the 5th centuries A.D.
Description
English: An example of what is probably a Roman copper alloy pin. This example does not fall into any of Cool's (1990) typological groupings. The head is unusual as it is pressed almost into a scoop shape, and so suggests that this item is in fact a ear scoop. However, part of the head is missing and so it is impossible to diffinitively state that this is an ear scoop. Examples of ear scoops can be found in crummy (1983; 59 - 60) Just below the head is a single decorative groove cut into the shank which spirals downwards, the total length of the decoration being 4.93mm.
