Title |
A Probably Modern glass intaglio with carved decoration. |
||
Description |
English: A porabably modern red translucent probably glass intaglio with carved design. The intaglio is set within a copper alloy mount with a moulded edge which is slightly thicker than the intaglio, projecting at the back. It was probably originally set in a fob or pedestal seal matrix. The intaglio is carved with a design of a man with a large plume in his hat. The entire piece including the frame is 21mm long, 18mm wide, 4.5mm thick and weighs 4.0 grams. The style, and clothing of the man suggests a late 18th or 19th century date. Intaglios mounted into seal matrices were very popular in the 18th and 19th century. |
