Title
A Post Medieval - early 1800s finger ring with green glass paste stone.
Description
English: A Post Medieval - early 1800s finger ring with green glass paste stone. The band of the finger ring has a circular cross-section that is hammered flat at the junction with the bezel. The oval bezel has a plain collet, is open backed with a scalloped upper edge and contains a green paste stone. The stone has been worked to resemble a star cut pavilion. The shape of the ring is slightly distorted and one end of the band has become detached from the bezel.

Hazel Forsyth: Paste glass will feel warm to the touch whilst a gemstone would feel cold. With the use of an eye loop air bubbles are visible typical with glass. On a gemstone the crystalline structure would be visible.

Dimensions: Diameter: 21.20mm; length of bezel: 13.98mm; width: 10.75mm; thickness of stone: 4.72mm; weight: 1.85g.

Identification by Hazel Forsyth, Senior Post Medieval Curator, Museum of London.
