Title
A Post-Medieval incomplete cast lead cloth seal.
Description
English: A Post-Medieval incomplete cast lead cloth seal, perhaps issued during the reign of Queen Anne. This disc features an engraved eagle on both sides and appears to have been made in Hull. As Egan (1994, 60) states, the relief designs on these alnage seals are characterised by fine detail resulting from well-engraved dies. Alnage seals indicated the cloth had been checked for quality by a Crown official and that the subsidy (tax) had been paid. The length is 21mm, width 18mm, thickness 3 mm and the weight is 9.64g.
