A Polden Hill type of Roman brooch.
Description
English: The object is a Colchester Two-Piece brooch, a Polden Hill type probably, made from cast copper alloy. This type of brooch dates to the 1st century. 

   The wings are semi-cylindrical with wing caps. However both caps are incomplete. The axis bar, spring and pin are missing. The exterior of the wings are undecorated. 


   
   The bow head is slightly hump-like, but is quite flat in profile. The bow head is decorated with a single vertical ridge which tapers at the top of the bow. The bow gradually tapers from a wide upper flat portion to a narrow, oval sectioned portion, where the lower edge is broken.


   
   The catchplate is missing due to the lower portion ofthe bow being missing.  


  
  The surface of the brooch is abraded and there are traces of a grey/green patina.
The width across the wings is 21.1mm and the length from the upper edge of the wings to the bow terminal is 28.5mm. It weighs 5.23g.
