Title
A Medieval strap end spacer.
Description
English: The object is strap end divider made from cast copper alloy. This type of strap end dates to the late 13th to mid 15th century. Egan and Pritchard illustrate similar examples, and classified this example as a ‘grooved aperture and acorn knop’ type, Nos. 672-675.

The spacer is a forked spacer. The body of it is a ‘U’ shape in plan, whose arms are broken. The internal edge of the spacer forms a ‘V’ shape. The acorn terminal protrudes from the outer edge of the apex. The ‘cup’ of the acorn has fine low-relief parallel notches, but this is the only decoration visible on the spacer. There are traces of silvering or tinning on the surface of the arms, but not the knop.

The spacer is 32.7mm long and 9.1mm wide. It weighs 2.2g.
