Description

A Manchester tram and two Stockport Trams at the Rising Sun, Hazel Grove

There is quite a lot of activity in the photograph and the two Stockport trams are showing 'Reserved'. The two Stockport trams were specially hired from Stockport Corporation for a tour of the Stockport system and quoted at the time "over Manchester corrugations for the last time". Sunday 9th January was the last day of Manchester Corporation trams, and its last route was the joint route through Stockport to Hazel Grove. The following day, Monday 10th January 1949, saw Manchester's official last tram procession. Stockport's trams however continued for over 2.5 years after this, and the section of route to Hazel Grove for a further year.
