Summary[edit]

Description A view of the Qutub Minar and Alai Darwaza at Mehrauli, Delhi. Qutub Minar was started by Qutub-ud-Din Aybak, the Slave dynasty Sultan in 1193 and completed by Iltutmish and the top floor added by Firuz Shah Tughlaq in 1368. At 72 meters (237.8 feet), it is the tallest brick and mortar structure in the world. The alai Darwaza was built by Ala-ud-Din Khilji in 1311 as a grand gateway to the complex. This is arguably, the oldest surviving proper dome in Delhi. Both represent the finest example of Indo-Islamic architecture, am amalgam of the indigenous and Persian architecture.
