English: Title: A Dalmatian laundry. Washing machines and other modern American time savers have not yet invaded the ancient city of Gollard in Dalmatia, so the women of today bend their backs for long hours while rubbing the linens on the rocks at the river bank to whiten them. For centuries this has been the custom of the country and it may be centuries before these unsuspecting people learn of western inventions. Labor saving devices for the over worked women of various European countries have been introduced by members of the American Red Cross wherever their relief activities have taken them. The American washing machine has perhaps caused more real consternation than almost any other one thing
