Français : Fernando Alvares Seco (fl. 1561-85) était un mathématicien et cartographe portugais qui dressa la première carte connue du Portugal. Elle fut gravée par Sebastiano del Re et publiée à Rome en 1561. Abraham Ortelius (1527-98) reproduisit plus tard la carte dans son Theatrum orbis terrarum (le théâtre du monde), qui fut publié pour la première fois en mai 1570. Ortelius était un cartographe et un éditeur de carte d'Anvers. De 1564 à 1570, il réalisa ses propres cartes, mais en 1570 il se tourna vers la publication de Theatrum. Connu comme le premier atlas au monde, cet ouvrage comprenait de nombreuses cartes bien connues des cartographes. English: Fernando Alvares Seco (fl. 1561-85) was a Portuguese mathematician and cartographer who made the first known map of Portugal. It was engraved by Sebastiano del Re and published in Rome in 1561. Abraham Ortelius (1527-98) later reprinted the map in his Theatrum Orbis Terrarum (Theater of the world), which was first published in May 1570. Ortelius was a cartographer and map publisher from Antwerp. From 1564 to 1570, he made maps of his own, but in 1570 turned to publishing the Theatrum. Known as the world’s first atlas, this work included maps by many well-known cartographers. It was issued in numerous editions between 1570 and 1612, in Latin, Dutch, German, French, Spanish, English, and Italian. This map is possibly from the Latin edition of 1579. It is oriented with north on the right, placing the Algarve, at the southwestern corner of the Iberian Peninsula, in the upper left of the map.

Português: Fernando Alvares Seco (fl. 1561-85) foi um matemático e cartógrafo português que fez o primeiro mapa de Portugal que se tem conhecimento. Foi gravado por Sebastiano del Re e publicado em Roma em 1561. Mais tarde, Abraham Ortelius (1527-98) reeditou o mapa em seu Theatrum orbis terrarum (Teatro de todo o mundo), que foi publicado pela primeira vez em maio de 1570. Ortelius foi um cartógrafo e editor de mapa de Antuérpia. De 1564 a 1570, ele fez seus próprios mapas, mas em 1570 decidiu publicar o Theatrum.
