English: The Indonesian Embassy in Bandar Seri Begawan is organizing an event, "2022 Friendship Badminton Match – Celebrating ASEAN Day," on Sunday, 21 August 2022, at the Diplomatic Hall of the Indonesian Embassy in Jalan Kebangsaan.
Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs II Pengiran Datin Shazainah binti Pengiran Dato Paduka Shariffuddin graced the occasion as the Guest of Honor and a royal family member, Dr. Pengiran Anak Mansurah Izzul Bolkiah also participated at the event. The event was joined by 17 Diplomatic Missions, including Heads of Diplomatic Mission and their staff, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sports. This program is held in commemoration of the 55th anniversary of ASEAN that falls on 8 August. "In the past 55 years, ASEAN has been recognized as the most successful regional organization that contributes to peace, stability and prosperity to the people in the region and beyond, including in times of economic crisis and pandemic," said Dr. Sujatmiko, the Indonesian Ambassador in his remarks. He continues, "ASEAN has met with several challenges throughout its journey. However, with cohesiveness and close relations among the member countries and their people, we can always cooperate to find a solution and move forward together." "This activity is also to strengthen friendship and cooperation between the Missions of the ASEAN Member States and other Missions in Brunei Darussalam as well as with the Government of Brunei Darussalam in various fields, especially in sports and other social activities. Aiming for it, the event is intended as a forum for a get-together among diplomatic missions of ASEAN member states, its dialogue partners, and other countries, as well as the relevant Brunei government's ministries. In 2023, Indonesia will be the Chair of ASEAN, based on the rotational basis of Chairmanship after Cambodia, the current Chair. The Indonesian Ambassador also hopes the support from the Government of Brunei Darussalam and other Diplomatic Missions in Brunei Darussalam for the success of Indonesia's Chairmanship in 2023. Before the matches began, a warm-up session with Gemu Fa Mi Re Dance was practiced by all participants, and later they joined together to share snacks and breakfast provided by Indonesian Embassy and some of the missions. At this event, a special rule of the game, including a scoring system, has been set up to accommodate everyone's playing level – both beginner and regular players. The two categories that were played are the Exhibition Fun Game – participated by heads of missions or spouse, permanent secretary, and dignitary participant; and Friendly Match – joined by the staff of diplomatic missions and ministries. At the final match, Colonel Angelo Gerard P. Ariles and Hermosillo T. Inoferio from the Philippines Embassy have won against Abdul Rashid Hj Idris and Maidin Hj Tamat from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Brunei and were awarded with the Rolling Trophy donated by the Indonesian Embassy. |
