Description

Swedish Training ship arrived at Boston "The Swedish training ship Chapman is showing tying up to the pier at the Charleston Navy yard. Boston, Mass., August 3, beside " Old Ironsides," noted frigate. The Chapman, which will be at Boston for six days as part of her cruise, was towed in from 100 miles out because no favorable wind was blowing." Credit Line ( ACME ) 8/3/34 On the far side of USS Constitution is USS Grebe (AM 43) which had towed the Constitution during her tour of the US in 1931 -1934 just before the Grebe entered a overhaul period after May of 1934. The Chapman with 190 cadets on board had been becalmed for 48 hours before the CG Cutter Ossipee was sent to tow her to Charlestown Navy Yard at the request of the Swedish Consulate, according to a 3 Aug article in the Boston Globe on page 6
