Summary[edit]

Description U.S. Navy Douglas A-4C Skyhawk aircraft (BuNo 147736, 147738) from Attack Squadron VA-94 Shrikes refueling two Vought F-8C Crusader fighters (BuNo 146994, 147021) from Fighter Squadron VF-91 Red Lightnings off Okinawa in the early 1960s. Both squadrons were assigned to Carrier Air Group 9 (CVG-9) aboard the aircraft carrier USS Ranger (CVA-61).
The A-4C 147736 was later converted to an A-4L, then to an A-4PTM and sold to Malaysia. The A-4C 147738 (VA-93) was lost in an accident on 23 March 1966, the pilot was killed. The F-8C 147021 was shot down by flak 16 km south-west of Hanoi (North Vietnam) on 19 May 1967. The pilot ejected and became a prisoner of war.
