Description
Français : Les « aérosols atmosphériques » sont les particules, solides ou liquides, en suspension dans l'atmosphère.

On regroupe sous le nom d'« aérosols carbonés » deux espèces chimiques différentes : le « carbone suie », ou « carbone noir » (anglais « Black Carbon » BC) et le carbone organique (anglais « Organic Carbon » OC). BC est intégralement émis par les sources de combustion tandis que OC comporte à la fois une partie émise (OC primaire, OCp) et une partie formée secondairement par photochimie dans l'atmosphère : Aérosols Organiques Secondaires (AOS, anglais SOA). Les SOA peuvent avoir deux origines : anthropique (SOAa) ou biogénique (SOAb). La formation secondaire de SOA s'effectue par photo-oxydation de Composés Organiques Volatils (COV) dits « COV précurseurs ». Une part des OCp émises provient également directement de la végétation (aérosols primaires biogéniques, anglais : PBAP – Primary Biogenic Aerosol Particles).

La végétation émet également des COV biogéniques (COVb), précurseurs d’aérosols organiques biogéniques secondaires (SOAb).
