White paper with typed black text and a handwritten signature

June 28, 1971 Mr. Richard W. Igo, Acting Superintendent Gettysburg National Military Park Gettysburg, Pennsylvania Dear Mr. Igo: You deserve a great deal of praise and commendation for the splendid way in which you assisted the Gettysburg Memorial Commission in getting ready for its dedication program on June 11th, 1971. I think you did everything just about perfect. Mr. Lamar Gibson, Director of the La. Parks and Recreation Commission of Baton Rouge and who served as ex-efficio Chairman of our Gettysburg Memorial Commission, would have been pleased had he been there to see how beautiful everything looked. I’d like to commend you for the following things: For the building of the platform and having it draped in bunting and painted; for the good installation of the electronic services, providing a public address system, and tap recording service, and for securing Mr. Walter Lane of Lane Studio, 34 York Street, to do the pictures. He mailed to me, several days ago, eight sheets of prints from which to select the pictures we wanted. I hope Mr. Gibson has sent his order in to Mr. Lane. Several of our ladies want to buy individual pictures at their own expense. We are also very delighted to get the list of persons to be invited with invitations, which we did. I’m sorry I did not get to meet you. I wish you had come to me and introduced yourself. I had a room full of callers all morning and had almost fifty messages awaiting me when I arrived so I did not get out to the field until about 12:30. I did have Mr. Joseph Winkler, who made several trips back and forth, to keep me advised. We shall never forget the people of Gettysburg. You and all the others were almost perfect. I liked the way the grass was cut. I liked the sodding of the area around the monument. I liked the flowers and shrubbery near the granite marker, which I hope will endure for ever [sic]. This has been my life’s work for the past five years and seems like that once we reached Gettysburg, the conclusion came all too soon. The entire day was one filled with emotion and sentiment --- and an occasion to be remembered forever. I would appreciate a letter you telling me what you though of the program and the way things were carried out. Very sincerely yours, [Signed] Mrs. Clarence R. Letteer, Chairman La. Gettysburg Memorial Commission
