Summary
[edit]Description73-76 St Stephen's Green (April 1965).jpg |
English: 73-76 St Stephen's Green under demolition in 1965. 72-76 were replaced with an office block sometimes referred to as Colmstock House designed by Downes and Mehan for Colmstock Properties. John Fearon & Sons builders can be seen here undertaking the demolition of the Georgian Houses which were likely from the second half of the 18th century. The building was entirely retrofitted and extended in 2007 and is now usually referred to as 75 St Stephen's green as of 2023.
Number 69-71 were replaced around the same time by Hainault House while the four Georgian Houses towards the end of the terrace at the junction with Earlsfort Terrace were replaced with Canada House. Number 77 to the right of the photo is still standing and is listed on the record of protected structures. ................. An image from the lovely Elinor Wiltshire to start this week after the August bank holiday. Fitzwilliam Street Lower Houses on St. Stephen's Green in the process of destruction, while high up are posters for Fianna Fáil with an image of the leader and the slogan "Let Lemass Lead on"! With some of the family I recently visited the museum at 14 Henrietta Street, and one of the images that came up was one of Elinor's from Ballymun, with the young girls we have already seen and identified. It gave me a lift to see her work, and its association with a time in Dublin!
