White paper with typed black text

November 26, 1984 Kr. William S. Price, Jr. Director, Division of Archives and History North Carolina Department of Cultural Resources Raleigh, North Carolina 27613 Dear Mr. Price: We are enclosing, as you requested, the policy we adhere to in adding new monuments and markers at Gettysburg National Military Park. After we receive and review your application, including the design, proposed inscription, and materials to be used, we will contact you again in order to convey our approval or suggestions for alterations. When we come to a satisfactory agreement, the park is required to subject an Agency Official 106 Effect Report to the State Historic Preservation Officer and to the Advisory Council for their ultimate approval in adding the mark of the 26th North Carolina Infantry Regiment. Discussions between Mr. Archie Davis and Kathy Georg of our staff have already established a tentative site location, which will be submitted along with your proposal for the physical appearance of the monument. Because it taken a period of about 90 days o process the 106 Effect Report through the proper channels, we hope that we can assist you in any way to expedite the application stages of the marker. We are excited about the introduction of the first marker since 1904 to an individual Confederate regiment that participated in the battle. We hope that it will instill a renew interest to accurately [?] and memorials the contributions and valor of others of Lee’s infantry, cavalry, and artillery units on the battlefield. Sincerely, Anna Lacher-May Acting Superintendent
