Description |
English: White paper with typed black text and a handwritten signature A very interesting piece of contemporary art work. I question the appropriateness of such an obviously stylistic representation of the human form for Gettysburg. As a piece of art unto itself, this sculpture is quite good, but considering the rest of the monumentation here, I feel it would look comical. If the artist wished to be accurate in the historic details of the forms, the tassels should be removed from the battle flag and the standing figure should not wear a bedroll. One other thing bothers me –the color bearer’s right hand is abnormally straight – both for accuracy of anatomy and line of the piece. Stylization is one thing, but this does not even seem to belong to the figure. Monumentation has certainly come a long way in 100 years at Gettysburg Alice M. Allen
