White paper with typed black text

September 10, 1984 Honorable James H. Edwards North Carolina Senate State Legislative Building Raleigh, North Carolina 27611 Dear Mr. Edwards: This is to thank you for your letter of August 22 proposing restoration of the North Carolina Monument at Gettysburg. Since our formal response to your request will be delayed due to the necessary consultations with other offices of the National Park Service, you should know that we have received your letter and we are actively considering your proposal. We most sincerely appreciate your interest and efforts in supporting the preservation of, not only North Carolina’s monument, but the monuments of other states. I hope to be able to extend the cooperation and support of the National Park Service; however, before final approval can be given I must consult with National Park Service conservators and others in our offices at Harper's Ferry Center, Philadelphia, and Washington. I will be in touch with you again as soon as a decision is reached. Sincerely, John R. Earnst Superintendent
