SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 69 By Baird (Wilson) A RESOLUTION to direct the State Building Commission to study and consider for submission to the U.S. National Park Service certain designs for a Tennessee Regimental Monument to be erected in Gettysburg National Park to commemorate the participation of Tennesseans in the Battle of Gettysburg. WHEREAS, during the first three days of July, 1863, in the countryside just south of the little town of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, there occurred what has been generally considered as perhaps the most decisive battle of the War Between the States; and WHEREAS, in that climatic battle fought on and about the military objective known as Cemetery Ridge, were involved Federal troops of the Army of the Potomac under the over all command of General George G. Meade, and confederate troops of the Army of Northern Virginia, under the over all command of General Robert E. Lee; and WHEREAS, part of the Army of Northern Virginia was composed of men from thirteen or more Tennessee counties, in the 1st, 7th, and 14th Tennessee Infantry Regiments, units which were in the van of the unsuccessful Confederate
