Description
English: This Maine refuge is comprised of three units: the Sunkhaze Meadows Unit, the Benton Unit, and the Sandy Stream Unit. The Sunkhaze Meadows Unit is the largest of the three, at 11,485 acres. The Sunkhaze Meadows Unit protects the second-largest peatland in Maine. Sunkhaze Meadows is best-known for the numerous species of neotropical migratory birds, especially warblers, which delight birdwatchers in May and June. In fact, all 24 species of warblers that visit Maine each year may be found within the refuge. LWCF has conserved 88 percent of the Sunkhaze Unit of the refuge.
