smooth vs. grainy

This is a variant of File:4 spheres as rings.png rendered with POV-Ray in a smaller size. It demonstrates the quality difference between a scaled down image (good) and an image rendered small (bad).

The image stack on the right shows this version compared to scaled down versions. The one scaled down from 500px looks much better that this file, but the one scaled down from 4000px still looks better.

This explains, why animations like File:4 spheres as rings.gif look grainy, when the image is rendered only in the size needed.
