White paper with typed black text

September 20, 1971 Hon. Tom P. Brady Associate Justice Supreme Court of the State of Mississippi Jackson, Mississippi 39205 Dear Judge Brady: I appreciate your phone call on Wednesday and feel confident that any differences that may have existed in the past are now resolved. The photographs, materials, and recommendations I promised for review by you and the other Commission members are enclosed. The photographs point up serious shortcomings in the landscaping for the Louisiana State Memorial. Maybe we can learn from the mistake of others. The plot plan we received from Mr. Donald DeLue is either scaled incorrectly or dimensioned incorrectly. We are including the plan as scaled to dimensions. As will be noted, the distance required to properly frame a standard photograph would require about 13 feet beyond the proposed walk. This contributes to a rapid eroding away of the ground cover. Rather than create an eyesore and maintenance problem, we recommend paving the area with flagstone. An example of this is included in the photo of the Indiana Monument. The estimated cost of flagstone is from $2,100 to $2,500. Square footage of either the original plot or the recommended alternative #2 is approximately the same. If we may be of further service, please let us know. Sincerely yours, Jerry L. Schober Superintendent Enclosures JLSchober : bd 9/20/71
