Summary[edit]

Description
English: 330-PS-9155 (USN 1037514a): For the first time television is tested by the U.S. Navy for ice reconnaissance. A television camera, developed by U.S. Navy and Philco Corporation Engineers, was mounted in a Navy helicopter and used to send a picture back to the Navy’s largest ice-breaker USS Glacier (AGB-4) showing the best route through the ice fields during Arctic operations this summer. The camera image was picked up on two television receivers on board Glacier where ice conditions were recorded. Glacier is shown in the ice fields in the Davis Straits enroute to Thule, Greenland, September 24, 1958. (11/5/2014).
