Description 330-CFD-DN-SC-88-01048: The Spruance class destroyer USS JOHN F. YOUNG (DD 973) sails by a pair of Iranian command and control platforms set afire after being shelled by four US Navy destroyers. The shelling is a response to a recent Iranian missile attack on a reflagged Kuwaiti super tanker, 10/19/1987. U.S. Navy photograph, now in the collections of the U.S. National Archives.
