White paper with typed black text and a handwritten signature

Date: 13 September 1961 To: Acting Superintendent From: Betty Subject: Telephone Call by Mrs. Mary Givens Bryan Mrs. Mary Givens Bryan, Director of Archives and History, State of Georgia, called at 10:20 a.m. today and gave Mr. Sollenberger the follow information: The Georgia Delegation is leaving Atlanta on the evening of September 19, at 6:30 p.m. on a TWA flight for Washington, D.C. They will be staying at the Raleigh Hotel in Washington. In the meantime, if it is necessary to contact her she can be reached in Atlanta at the Dept. of Archives, Trinity 6-4324 (collect). The will leave Antietam in a chartered bus and spend the night of September 20 at the Hotel Gettysburg. They would like to have a tour of the battlefield on the morning of September 21st. Mrs. Forrest Kibler, who is 83 years old and Chairman of this Centennial Committee, will not be able to attend the ceremonies – doctor’s orders. Mrs. Bryan informed us that Secretary of State Fortson is in a wheelchair, and she inquired about providing approximately a one foot elevation for him, just so his head will be about the spectators. They would also like to have about 100 folding chairs provided. Mr. Slaymaker of the Pennsylvania Historical Society would like to present Governor Vandiver of Georgia with a little citation at the end of the ceremony because of his interest in preservation. Superintendent Myers and Regional Director Lee are invited to have lunch as guests of the Georgia delegation after the ceremony at the Hotel Gettysburg.
