Description

16 Battalion (Cardiff City), Welsh Regiment

Lt Williams was educated at Llandovery College and St John's College, Oxford where he was awarded First Class Honours Moderations in Mathematics in 1913.

On 8 - 9 April 1916, he was commanding a night raid when he was wounded three times and had to be left in a shell hole. A rescue party was sent out 30 minutes late, but no further trace of him was found.

For the raid, Lt Williams had disguised his status by removing his identify disc and assuming the uniform of a private soldier. He was aged 21. Lt Williams is commemorated on the Loos Memorial.
