Title
2AB0F5. Harness pendant. Front
Description
English: Copper alloy harness pendant with separate suspension mount. Shield shaped pendant depicting the arms of the de Bohuns, Earls of Hereford and Essex. It has an integral, hinged attachment stud with remains of iron staining. Originally this would be decorated with a blue field with a silver diagonal stripe bordered by two gold stripes with six lioncels (little lions) of gold. There are three running diagonally in the upper left hand side of the shield and three in a diagonal line below the stripes (lower right). Only part of the blue field remains. The outline of the upper left hand lion is almost recognisable. Heraldically the shield is described as ‘azure, a bend argent cotised between six lioncels’. The ‘bend cotised’ is very distinctive. It is in poor condition. Dimensions: 41.66mm x 19.11mm x 5.55mm
