Summary[edit]

Description
English: The Lamme Building (29 E. Main), in Bozeman, Montana.

Dr. Achilles Lamme arrived in the Gallatin Valley in 1865. He never formally practiced medicine, but rather built his fortune selling supplies to nearby Fort Ellis and to settlers. He began construction on commercial buildings at 25 East Main, 27 East Main, and 29 East Main. 29 East Main was the smallest of these, as well as the last constructed (in 1883-1884). It was nearly identical to 25 East Main, although 29 East Main was much more lavish. 27 East Main was a relatively plain structure, and the largest of the three. Lamme operated his retail merchant store out of 29 East Main.

The two-story Lamme Building has a finely detailed metal cornice and decorative finials. The facade features a wide glass storefront, Beaux-Arts window moldings, a recessed entry, and stone corner quoins. It is considered the finest Italianate style building in Bozeman.

It is a contributing property to the Main Street Historic District, which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on December 21, 1987.

This is an image of a place or building that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places in the United States of America. Its reference number is 87001848.
