27A210 medieval horse harness pendant |
||
Description |
English: Medieval copper alloy horse harness pendant, 28mm long, 16mm wide and 3mm wide. The object is in a fair condition with a brownish patina and a weight of 3.44 grams. The object is shield shaped and has traces of a suspension loop in the centre of its upper side. It is decorated with dark blue enamel, arranged in three bands. The upper band has a lower straight edge with an upper curving line which forms three rounded protrusions. The second band repeats the pattern but with two protrusions and the third with one. The decoration has been identified as the arms of the County of Guines (Pas De Calais). These belonged to Arnoul III and date to the 13th century. (His son married into the De Lindsey family who held lands in Westmorland and Yorkshire.) |
